Planning, building and development

Planning provides advice on all planning applications.  Also we deal with works to protected trees; advice on ecology;  giving urban design advice for key sites in the City; advice on archaeology; promoting and protecting the City's heritage; and planning for the city's future development.

The Building Control Service deal with building regulations, site inspections on works in progress, dangerous structures, demolition notices, street naming and numbering applications and the licensing of skips, scaffolds and hoardings.

Building Regulations are completely separate from Planning and you should always check both before starting any work. You may still need Building Regulations consent even if you do not need Planning Permission, and vice versa.
