You can zoom in and out to get a closer look of the area you're interested in – using your mouse scroll wheel or the option in the top right of the map. Click-and-drag on the map to move the move around.  
Click on the site (red outline) for more details, a pop-up box will appear in the lower half of the screen.
There is an option in the top right corner of the map to switch between the aerial photography (satellite icon) or the OS base map (map icon)
There is an option in the top left to choose which layers to switch on and off,
There is also an option in the top left to search for an address.  Just start typing a place or street name to see the options found, and click on the address to zoom to it.
