Newcastle City Council has received applications from Ouseburn Futures to designate:

  1. 'Ouseburn Valley Neighbourhood Area'.
  2. 'Ouseburn Valley Neighbourhood Forum'.

The purpose of the applications is to enable the Forum to undertake neighbourhood planning and in particular to prepare a Neighbourhood Plan for the area. Membership of the Forum is open to anyone who lives, works or is a City Councillor for the Area. Only one neighbourhood forum can be designated in a single neighbourhood area.

A Neighbourhood Plan will enable the Forum to set out planning policies for the future development of land in the area. This Neighbourhood Plan will form part of Newcastle City Council's planning policy and will be used to judge planning applications and development proposals in the Neighbourhood Plan area.

Neighbourhood planning cannot be used to block the building of the homes and businesses considered to be necessary to meet the City's current and future needs. The Neighbourhood Plan must be in line with Newcastle City Council's Local Plan documents. However, it can influence the type, design, location and mix of new development.

The consultation period on the applications closed on 29 February 2016. A decision on the applications will be made in due course.
