This directory contains listings of the organisations that Newcastle City Council currently commission to provide care. If we arrange a care service on your behalf, it is very likely that we will use one of these organisations. This directory is for information purposes only. The Council does not accept any liability for any services obtained from any organisation detailed in this directory.
How to use the directory
You might find the directory useful if you have a direct payment and want to employ an agency, or if you are someone who pays the full cost of services and want to arrange services privately yourself. If you are unsure, our Charging for Care and Support page will give you an idea of whether or not you would be a full cost payer. Our Assessment page explains assessment and eligibility for council services.
You can search the directory by type of service and the needs of the person who would be using the service. So, for example, if you are looking for home care for someone with a learning disability you can find this particular type of service under home care.
Types of services
This directory includes home care, residential and nursing care, and day care. The Long Term Services pages explain what each of these types of services do.
Regulation and Service Quality
Residential and nursing care and home care services must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC is the body that regulates health and social care provision in England. It is responsible for setting standards and monitoring and inspecting services to ensure they meet those standards.
There are other agencies available in Newcastle, and for the widest possible choice, you can look on the Care Quality Commission website. This lists all registered providers of residential and nursing care, home care, and other types of services. We strongly recommend that you look at the information on the CQC website, including inspection reports, before making a decision about using any agency.
These web pages contain information which you may find helpful in making decisions about a choice of care provider. However, if you feel you need further assistance or advice, please contact Community Health and Social Care Direct.
