Out of Bay

Out of Bay

Motorists parking in Newcastle City Council on street parking bays and car parks must adhere to the terms and conditions of using the space and car park, this includes motorists parking within the limits of a marked parking bay.

Each individual bay is marked out with white lines at the front and both sides.

Please see a photograph of the bays as they are marked out in a multi storey car park.

If a bay does not have the full white lines on the ground as shown above, motorists should find an alternative bay to park in.

Vehicles must park fully within the lines of a marked bay, if a vehicle is parked outside of the limits of bay markings a Penalty Charge Notice can be issued by a Civil Enforcement Officer (CEO).

It is acceptable for a motor vehicle to be further out of the rear of the bay; however it must be parked within the front and side white lines of the marked bay.

If a motor vehicle extends out of the rear of the bay, the motorist needs to check that they are neither causing a hazard nor are obstructing the free flow of traffic in either a multi storey or off street car park.

Motorists should not park at the entrance or exit to any car park.  They should not park on any yellow lines or yellow hatch marking lines.

Disabled blue badge holders must also park in the marked white lines of a bay. Although disabled badge holders are permitted to park on yellow lines in on street locations, this does not apply to off street or multi storey car parks.

If a motor vehicle is parked either outside of the lines of a bay or where there are no white lines, a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) will be issued by a Civil Enforcement Officer (CEO) for not being parked wholly within a bay.

If a motor vehicle is parked on either yellow lines or yellow hatch marking in, a car park a PCN will be issued by a CEO for not being parked wholly within a bay.

If parking in an on street parking bay, vehicles must also park fully within the limits of the parking bay. The terms and conditions of use of the parking bay as printed on the pay and display machine advises a PCN will be issued if a vehicle is parked beyond the bay markings.
