Cycle routes across the city

Cycle routes across the city

We're proud to be one of eight Cycle Ambition Cities in England which has seen us generate an extra £16.3m to invest in our cycling and walking infrastructure.

This has enabled us to build around 16 km of new cycle routes, with a further 2 km due to be built this year, and a further 10 km ready to be built as soon we secure the funding.

Some of the schemes are listed below:

Inside the city centre

Outside the city centre

Did you know?

7% of Newcastle residents usually cycle to and from work. We're building more and safer cycle routes to encourage more people to encourage greener ways of travelling (Source Bikelife 2017).

We were successful in securing two bids from the Department of Transport's Cycle City Ambition Fund. The original bid was for £5.7m which included our John Dobson Street improvements. We were successful in a further bid for £10.6m to make cycling and walking much more attractive in local areas.
