Season Ticket Permits

Season Ticket Permits

We have begun a review of how this permit parking scheme operates, in order to ensure that the scheme is fit for purpose in supporting our highways network, whilst recognising the changing needs of businesses in the city centre and to respond to changing customer demands and digital expectations.

Until the review is complete, application for new Season Tickets (rather than a current permit holder holding a paper permit renewing to a virtual permit) will be reviewed depending on the current level of permits in the requested car park. We currently have limited availability across all of our permit types and car parks and as such you can either make an application which we will respond to accordingly or you can email cityparkpermits@newcastle.gov.uk to check availability. Where we are temporarily no longer to issue a permit type for a car park we can place an application on the waiting list.

Permits will be issued for either 4 weeks or 13 weeks for the duration of the review.

The renewal of any permits that are due for renewal during the review, will also be capped at 13 weeks.  Details for options to renew for either 4 weeks or 13 weeks will be sent to the permit holder as part of the renewal reminder process.

If you are a frequent user of the city centre car parks operated by Newcastle City Council then you may be interested in one of our car parks Season Tickets after reading the following information.

Season Tickets allow parking without the need to purchase a ticket at the machine or pay via the Pay by Phone Service. There are three different types of Season Tickets; Gold, Emerald and Diamond each season ticket may only be used in the designated permit bays located within the chosen car park.

However, If the vehicle is an electric vehicle the permit may also be used within an electric vehicle charging bay whilst actively charging within the designated car park.

Additionally, If the season ticket is being used by a disabled badge holder, the season ticket holder may park in a disabled parking bay or regular pay and display parking bay within the designated car park, provided that the season ticket holder displays a valid disabled badge.

If you hold a Citypark Gold permit these permits will remain valid until their expiry date. However, you will not be unable to renew these and a new application for a virtual Season Ticket will need to be submitted.

How long do the permits run for?

All of our permits can be taken out for periods of 4 weeks, 13 weeks (3 months) or 52 weeks (12 months) at a time. For each permit type payment must be processed up front before the permit is issued.  There is no longer an option to pay for an annual permit via monthly instalments due to the number of customers who defaulted on payment plans, but the option of taking out permits at 4 week intervals providing an option for customers to spread the cost of the permit each month.

Virtual permits

The Season Tickets we issue are in the process of being updated to become virtual permits and we will no longer issue physical parking permits. Virtual parking permits are an electronic record confirming that you have a Season Ticket rather than having to display a physical parking permit.  Details of your parking permit will be held electronically and shared with Civil Enforcement Officers, and you will be able to manage your parking permit online, including making a payment to renew your parking permit. Any new applications made from the 18th July 2022 will be made via an online account and all Season Tickets issued will be virtual.

Why is the scheme changing?

The scheme is changing to provide a more efficient permit system and experience for permit holders. These benefits include: -

  • The facility to manage your parking permit online.
  • There will no longer be a requirement to display a physical permit in your vehicle as we will hold an electronic record of your permits that the Civil Enforcement Officers will check when inspecting vehicles parked in the car park.
  • Payments will be handled by the permit system allowing the permit to be issued and active as soon as the payment is made.
  • As the majority of permits will be virtual there will be fewer permits lost in the post or lost by permit holders who share a permit between different vehicles.
  • There will be more accurate enforcement activity because Civil Enforcement Officers will check every vehicle parked in permit bays to see if they hold a valid permit.
  • As the permits will be virtual rather than physical there should be fewer Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued to permit holders for forgetting to display a physical permit or where a permit has fallen from a windscreen.

Benefits of having a Season Ticket permit

A Season Ticket permit removes the need to carry or find change for your parking session and also includes a discount built in to the price.
