Online Heritage Enquiries

Local Studies at the City Library will be open from Monday 13 September.

You can now access Level 6 of the City Library, which houses the Local Studies Collections.  We'd like you to continue to maintain social distancing and hand hygiene.  There are 17 spaces allocated on the floor with a maximum of 3 hours per visit.

  • Please ask on Level 1 and staff will let you know if space is available on Level 6.
  • You may need to wait if all available spaces are occupied.
  • Access to Level 6 is provided for Local Studies Enquiries only and not for study space.
  • You will be allocated a space on the floor, you can then access all the material on open access.
  • Please ask staff to retrieve items you require from the Level 6 stack.
  • If you require an item from the Special Collections, the procedure for this has not changed, you must contact us in advance to arrange a viewing, email: or call 0191 278 7878
