Newcastle Libraries for Under 5's

Under 5's at Newcastle Libraries

It's never to early to join the library! We have lots of activities suitable for children under 5.

Books

We have a wide range of picture books and board books that you can borrow with your library card. You can reserve books from other branches for free. We don't charge fines for late books so there's no need to worry if plans change or life gets a bit hectic.

Parent Collection

Our libraries have a parent collection, where you can find books about a range of topics relating to parenting and young children, such as weaning, sleep, and child development.

Storytime for Under 5's

Join us at your local  library for weekly songs and stories during term time. These relaxed drop in sessions will help your child develop a love of stories, promote language development and let you chat with other parents in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Baby Social @ Kenton Library

Free, drop in sessions for parents of children under 1. Meet other local families and have a chat whilst your children play. Thursdays, 11am-12pm

Baby Weighing Scales

We have weighing scales for you to drop in and weigh your baby at a time that suits you. These are currently available during opening hours at Kenton Library.

Book a Toy

Our Book a Toy service, in partnership with NAPI, lets you borrow toys and games for your child.  Every library has a catalogue of available toys, which you can reserve and have delivered to your local library for free.

Sling Library

On the second Monday of the month, we have a sling library on level 3 at City Library, 11am-12pm. Drop in for advice about your own sling, hire a sling or just for a friendly chat. This service is provided by https://oneofthosebabycarriers.com/

Bookstart

Bookstart is a national programme that gives free books to children and their families to spread the importance of sharing stories at an early age. You might have got your free Bookstart pack from your health visitor or registrar but you can also pick up your pack from your local library.
