Key dates in the Reception process

| 1 September 2023 | Application process opens online for 2024/25 |
| 15 January 2024 | Closing date for applications. Any evidence to support your application must also be submitted before this date. |
| 29 January 2024 | Last date for you to tell us about exceptional circumstances, such as a house move, for it to be considered in the process for national offer day (the house move must have happened prior to this date). If you have not submitted an on-time application, you must submit a statement and evidence of the reason why you were unable to submit an application before 15 January 2024 in order for the local authority to consider if your application meets the exceptional circumstances criteria. |
| 16 April 2024 | National offer day. Login online to see your offer. We will send emails to applicants who have provided a valid email address and post letters second class today to applicants who have not provided an email address. |
| 1 May 2024 | Deadline to accept offer. If you do not respond we may remove the place and reallocate it to another child. |
| 9 May 2024 | First waiting list run. This is the day that any places that have become available since offer day will be reallocated. We will contact you if we can offer your child a higher preference school. |
| 10 May 2024 | Deadline to submit late changes and late applications to be considered in the second waiting list run. |
| 17 May 2024 | Deadline to submit an appeal to ensure it is heard in the first round of appeals. |
| 3 June 2024 | Second waiting list run to reallocate places that have become available. Late applicants will be made offers today. |
| June/July | Places continue to be offered from waiting lists each week. |
| September | Your child starts school. If your child was not offered a place in your first preference school, they will remain on waiting lists for any higher preference schools until at least 31 December. If the school clears the waiting list after this date, they will contact you. If you want to change your school preferences from 1 September, you must complete an in-year application. |
