Hazlerigg-based hairdresser and beauty salon HQ Hair and Beauty signed up to the scheme and are looking forward to welcoming back customers, hopefully on April 12.

"I think it's nice that the council are doing this and I hope people, when they see these signs, it registers with them the fact that they can feel safe," said salon director and stylist Elaine Williamson. "It's nice to have the certificate to recognize the work we've put in.

"I think this is not going to go away, this virus, so I would say wholeheartedly join the scheme, because I think it's brilliant and if we all do it, and we're all singing the same hymn sheet, everyone can look for it, and know that there's a benchmark level of safety in place."
