Street Collection Licence

You must apply for a street collection licence before carry out a Street Collection. This is a requirement under the Police, Factories, & c. (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1916.

Newcastle City Council only permit one charity to collect at any one time in the City Centre.

Applicants must contact the Licensing Section to check availability of dates. A street collection licence must not provide financial gain for any individual and the whole proceeds of the collection, with the exception of minor expenses, must be donated to the charity.

The applicant must ensure at least 28 days notice has been given.

You can apply online however before applying online, please contact the Licensing Section who will confirm availability and issue you with a confirmation application number for completion on the form.

Will Tacit Consent Apply?

Yes.  This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard by the end of the target completion period which is 28 days from the date of submission of all correct and relevant information.

Did you know?

You do not need to apply for a street collection licence if your collection is taking place on private property.

You do need to apply for a street collection licence if you wish to carry out a collection on the highway.
