Radioactive Substances Act 1993

A number of premises use, keep and dispose of small amounts of radioactive materials. These are commonly hospitals and universities. Such premises are registered with the Environment Agency under the Radioactive Substances Act 1993.

The enforcement authority is the Environment Agency.

 

Public register

The Council is sent a copy of registrations for its public register which is required under the Act. The register can be viewed on the Environment Agency pages.

Sources of radioactivity in the environment and how levels of radioactivity are monitored and assessed.

 

 

Radioactivity in food and the environment

Annual assessment reports of radioactivity in food and the environment and the public's exposure to radiation.
