Climate summits

Youth Climate Change Summit

Join us at the Tyneside Cinema for our first ever Youth Climate Change Summit, on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 October 2021.

The summit will bring together young people, aged 14 to 18 years old, who live or go to school in the city, to consider how we can play our part in tackling the global climate emergency at a local level.

Five reasons to join the summit

  1. Set a Climate Mandate for the city
  2. CV boost - Attendees will receive a certificate of completion
  3. Broaden your network and meet new people
  4. Free lunch on both days
  5. Free cinema ticket for each attendee

What you'll do at the summit

  • Day one - Climate change and net zero

Presentations and interactive sessions covering key questions like:
    - What is climate change?
    - Why does climate change matter to your future?
    - What does climate change mean to you?
    - What can we do to tackle climate change?
    - How can we take individual and collective action to address climate change?

  • Day two - Mock COP-26 and Climate Mandate

The 26th Conference of the Parties (COP-26) will be held in November 2021 with world leaders meeting in Glasgow to make national an international environmental commitments.

A mock COP-26 event will transport you to the centre of the international politics of climate change. You will learn about climate change negotiations, the people involved, and the challenges they face in reaching consensus and making commitments.

You can also be part of producing a climate mandate to tell decision makers what young people in Newcastle want them to do to tackle climate change.

Student Climate Change Summit

A climate change summit for students will be held from November 8 to 10 at Newcastle Civic Centre and Newcastle University.
