Black History Month 2022

Black History Month 2022

This year, the theme for Black History Month is 'Time for Change: Action Not Words.’

"To get to a better tomorrow, we can’t just focus on the past. The past is in the past. We can acknowledge and learn from it, but to improve the future, we need action, not words. We need to come together around a shared common goal to achieve a better world for everyone."

As we celebrate the continued achievements and contributions of Black people to the North East, the UK, and the rest of the world, we also need to consider how we're creating change for the future.

100 Books by Black Authors

We're proud to again share a new and improved list of 100 Books by Black Authors. From powerful Booker-nominated The Trees by Percival Everett to the latest from Bolu Babalola, Honey & Spice, this list is a celebration of Black authors.

You will find a 100 Books by Black Authors display on Level 3 of City Library and smaller displays in some branches.
