Tenants and Leaseholders - building safety consultation

The government are consulting with tenants and leaseholders about changes to the way building safety is managed in structures of 6 storeys and above, these changes will require the Council and Your Homes Newcastle (YHN) to:

• Keep an up-to-date ‘building safety case’ (which is a file of information) describing how safety in the building will be managed

• Provide information to tenants and leaseholders on how the safety of the building is being managed and to make additional information readily available if they request it

• Make it clear to tenants and leaseholders how safety concerns can be reported and ensure these are responded to

These changes will require tenants and leaseholders to co-operate with the Council and YHN by reporting safety issues, and they are also looking at how landlords can improve how they manage the cost impact on leaseholders if improvement work is required to make the building safe.
