Marriage and Civil Partnership Premises Licence

Under legislation the Council grants licences for the provision of Marriage and Civil Partnership Ceremonies in certain premises.

When an application is made, the Fire Brigade, and a Council Enforcement Officer inspect the premises. This is to determine suitability of the premises for the licence.

An advertisement has to be placed in a local newspaper on one occasion only however 28 days are allowed for objections to be received to the Licensing Office.

Will Tacit Consent Apply?

No. However our target period for processing a correctly completed application is 90 days from receipt with the Licensing Authority. This time frame is based upon no objections being made to the application and all reports being satisfactory. We shall confirm within 14 days receipt of your application. If no confirmation is received please contact the Licensing Office.

Marriage Act 1949, Civil Partnership Act 2004

 Notice of application for premises to be approved as a venue for civil marriages and civil partnership formations

 I/We       NONE

 being the proprietor of the premises named below has applied to the Head of Democratic Services for approval for

 NONE

 under the above Act(s) as premises where civil marriage/partnership ceremonies may take place.

 The Marriages and Civil Partnerships (Approved Premises) Regulations 2005 state that premises can be approved by the Council if in their opinion and amongst other things:

  1. they are seemly, dignified and regularly available for civil marriages/partnership ceremonies.
  2. they have adequate fire precautions, and other appropriate safety precautions.
  3. they have no recent or continuing connection with any religion which is incompatible with the use of the premises as a venue for civil marriages/partnership ceremonies.

 Full details of these conditions can be obtained from Head of Democratic Services.

 Any person wishing to see the application I have made and the plans of the premises may do so at the Licensing Office, Unit 2, Wincomblee Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 3PF during normal opening hours.

 Any person may give notice of an objection to the grant of approval. Objections must be made in writing to Head of Democratic Services c/o the Licensing Office (as above) or email NCCLicensing@newcastle.gov.uk. All objections must be received within 21 days of the date of this publication being XXXXX.
