£47,420 - £51,515 per annum, plus standby payment

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage our Private Rented Housing Team. We are about to embark on creating new selective licensing areas across the City to help manage our large stock of private rented properties.

The post holder will be responsible for a variety of functions including improving housing conditions in the private rented sector and policy development. This includes dealing with HMO licensing, selective and additional licensing, fire safety and nuisance and anti-social behaviour issues.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring that our private sector residents are able to live in safe and well managed homes. You will do this by using the full range of enforcement tools at the council’s disposal. You will be managing a team of professional staff and developing policy to make sure we achieve good living standards in private sector homes and neighbourhoods in the City and make sure we get the basics right for residents.

This is a permanent post for 37 hours per week and you will be part of our emergency out of hours on call team.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

<ul>

<li>Will hold a BSc or MSc in Environmental Health (or equivalent degree), and be EHRB registered and/or on the CIEH Professional Register as a Chartered or Registered EHP or a formal housing qualification or relevant experience</li>

<li>Extensive experience of improving poor housing conditions in the private rented sector using a range of enforcement options.</li>

<li>Experience of dealing with nuisance and anti-social behaviour issues.</li>

<li>Experience of dealing with fire safety in High Rise buildings.</li>

<li>Experience of writing and developing policy.</li>

<li>Experience of managing staff</li>

<li>Certified and experienced in the use of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System to assess housing conditions.</li>

<li>A broad knowledge of the private rented housing sector.</li>

<li>Excellent communication skills.</li>

<li>Ability to represent the council at court and tribunal hearings. </li>

<li>A Valid driving licence or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.</li>
