Migration, Refugee and Asylum Lead

Ref:

AS315

Full time

£47,420 - £51,515 per annum

An exciting opportunity has come up to lead the delivery of Newcastle’s Council of Sanctuary strategy and associated work to enhance the City’s positive reputation for our humane and cost effective responses to people migrating to our city or coming here as asylum seekers and refugees.

Our strategy states that ‘Newcastle is a City of Sanctuary. We are a city built on solidarity, and we are proud to welcome people seeking safety.’ The successful candidate will directly manage a team of 10 and coordinate responses to promote positive integration from a range of agencies including housing, health, employment, community safety, ESOL, education, arts and culture from the public and voluntary sector.

The post holder will manage a range of dedicated government grants for asylum seekers and refugees and will align these with mainstream funded services to maximise value. The role also involves representing the city at a regional and national level.

The role involves developing and delivering the Council’s policy responses to migration and integration and translating these into service responses that make a positive material difference to people who are new to our city. This will require developing innovative responses to maximise the value of the city’s collective investment to work within the financial constraints that local government faces.

This post provides a positive opportunity to build on the city’s good record as a City of Sanctuary. The post holder will consolidate the services that have evolved into a cost effective rights based approach to proactive integration that utilises and celebrates everyone’s contribution to making Newcastle a modern diverse productive city.

We hope that this opportunity will attract interest from people who are committed to working to promoting integration. More information can be found at: City of Sanctuary and for an informal discussion, please contact Neil Munslow, Service Manager: Active Inclusion, on 07772647895.
