Council Housing is managed by Your Homes Newcastle on behalf of Newcastle City Council.

If you live in Newcastle you can apply for council and housing association properties.

These properties can often be a more affordable option than renting in the private sector or home ownership.

Homes that are available include:

  • family homes
  • properties for single people or couples
  • housing for older people

  • a more secure type of tenancy
  • no deposit to pay
  • a 24 hours repairs service
  • no minimum tenancy term
  • an optional furniture rental service
  • support to manage a tenancy (if required)

Through Newcastle Homes you can:

  • apply to join the housing register
  • search and bid for council and social housing in Newcastle

If you used to use the now closed Tyne and Wear Homes service to search and bid for properties then on Newcastle Homes you will have the same:

  • login reference number
  • password
  • memorable date

Your Homes Newcastle (YHN)

Your Homes Newcastle (YHN) provides council housing on behalf of Newcastle City Council.

If you apply to Newcastle Homes for housing, YHN will be responsible for dealing with your application and making you an offer of a home if your application is successful.

YHN is responsible for providing service to existing council tenants which includes dealing with rents, and repairs but they also provide a range of additional services such as furniture packs, benefits advice and jobs and training schemes. YHN is also responsible for services to leaseholders and the Right to Buy process.
