Newcastle City Council is required to collect monies from both residents and businesses. Money that we collect enables us to provide important public services and income that is not collected or that takes additional effort to collect means fewer resources are available for services. The council is committed to recovering all debts owed which is fair to the majority of people who pay for services and charges to the council on time. This policy describes how we will work co-operatively across the council to maximise income collection and at the same time facilitate a consistent and fair approach to providing support which will help prevent our customers accruing debts to the council.
