A number of important cross-cutting considerations underpin all aspects of the councils work:

  • Sustainability – a green thread runs through all our policies and services as we aim to make Newcastle one of the greenest cities in Europe. We are committed to doing all that is necessary to make Newcastle carbon neutral by 2050.
  • Wellbeing and health – Newcastle experiences great inequalities in health and wellbeing and we will do all we can to ensure that the health and wellbeing of our residents is considered in all our policies so that everything about the way our city works promotes good health and wellbeing.
  • Age friendly – we want Newcastle to be a city that meets the needs of its residents whatever their age – young and old. As people live longer we will do all we can to ensure our city adapts to the changing needs of our population.
  • Equalities – we are committed to reducing inequality and advancing equality through the decisions that we make and through our policies and practices.
