Covid-19: Business grants and financial support

You can now apply for a range of new business grants to support businesses impacted by local and national restrictions. Specifically, these grants are to support businesses legally forced to close; those in the hospitality, leisure and accommodation sectors severely impacted by the local restrictions prior to the 5th November; and those in the supply chain. There will be a single application form to apply for support, and we will use your information to calculate what level of grant you may be eligible for. The specific schemes are:
- Local Restrictions Support Grant Open
- Local Restrictions Support Grant Sector
- Local Restrictions Support Grant Closed – Addendum
We will also ‘top-up’ these schemes with funding through the ‘Additional Restrictions Grant’ to extend the eligibility criteria. Before applying for a grant, please ensure you have read the detailed eligibility criteria found here.
Please be aware; if you meet our eligibility criteria, and you are a business rates account holder, you will be required to input account details, such as your account reference number and unique property reference number (UPRN). Both of which can be found on your business rates bill.
If you are not a business rates account holder, you will be required to provide the following: a recent bank statement that includes your property costs, a signed lease, a utility bill.
Businesses that do not have commercial premises within Newcastle upon Tyne will not be eligible for a grant.
Government have announced further grants of £1,000 to "wet pubs" to help them through December. We are awaiting further guidance from Government around how these grants should be administered. When this is clear, we will publish the details on this webpage.
The funding set out above builds upon the £61.5 million worth of grants already distributed to around 5,300 businesses in the city this year.
Tailored advice to help SME’s to adapt to new challenges and safeguard jobs
Citylife Business Support is a new service for SME’s who have be adversely affected by COVID-19.
Funded though the £1.5 million Capacity Fund that was granted to Newcastle City Council by the North of Tyne Combined Authority, it is part of the city’s commitment to supporting businesses, voluntary and community organisations and unemployed residents who have been adversely impacted by COVID-19. Those retail, hospitality and leisure businesses who pay business rates will also be able to benefit from a 12-month payment holiday this year. This process will be automated, and businesses do not need to contact the council.
