Select & Collect - a new service from Newcastle Libraries

City Library is open for some selected services, but we're not able to allow people into the building to browse for books or other library items. Instead, we have introduced this innovative new service, so that you can select your own titles from our stock and borrow them.

Reading under lockdown has been extremely popular for people's entertainment, education and mental health. We've seen a huge rise in people borrowing eBooks and eAudiobooks, but we know that some people prefer to read a physical book.

Select & Collect lets you browse online to find books you'd like to borrow, and then come in and collect them. Currently we're operating from City Library in central Newcastle, but we aim to expand the service to other libraries too.

Our team have done a great job of making changes and amendments to our systems, but because we're using systems that were not designed to operate in this way, we acknowledge that it's not the  slickest process - but we hope that you will bear with us in these difficult times. If you get stuck or want to suggest improvements please call us or email us at select@newcastle.gov.uk

If you’re not a library member or you have an online-only membership, you will need  full membership to borrow items through Select & Collect - find our more on our Join Newcastle Libraries page.

Fines are currently suspended - but we'd appreciate it if you could return your books when you're finished with them so others can enjoy them. Please return books to the 24 Hour Library near City Library entrance on John Dobson Street or to the New Bridge Street entrance of City Library (Weekdays 11am-5pm).
