Young Volunteers

Young Volunteers

Our Young Volunteers programme is an opportunity for young people aged 14-17 to volunteer at their local library and gain valuable work experience in a friendly and supportive setting.

The role of a young volunteer is to volunteer in a branch of Newcastle Libraries alongside other volunteers and library staff to help children and families get the most from their library visit.

The ideal commitment is a minimum of 8-10 hours per half term, but there is flexibility in choosing days and times within this period.

Volunteers will work alongside library staff who can provide general support and help. As part of this role, all volunteers will be invited to an induction meeting to find out what is involved, how our libraries work and how to talk with children about books and reading. There is also a chance to meet library staff and other volunteers. On some occasions this training may be provided on a one-to-one basis.

Volunteers will receive a certificate of completion, and, if required, a reference from library staff for future volunteering and employment opportunities.
