The Governors of Archbishop Runcie Church of England VA First School wish to appoint a Support Assistant Level 2 on a fixed-term contract to initially work in Key Stage 1.

This is an opportunity to support children across the school, 1:1 in the classroom, working closely with parents, class teachers, the SENCo and the Headteacher to provide children with the highest possible quality of education.

The ideal candidate will be someone with experience of working in a similar role, especially children who are neurodiverse (e.g. autism, ADHD) and/or children who have experienced trauma. Experience of de-escalation strategies and positive handling would be advantageous. Bespoke CPD can be provided to support the successful candidate with any relevant gaps.

We are a welcoming Church of England school with a dynamic, passionate and hardworking staff team. We have high expectations of ourselves and all children. Parents are highly supportive of the school.

This role will be an opportunity to play a full part in the continued development of our vision for all our children to become confident, secure, caring individuals who flourish through our ambitious curriculum. This position is subject to the continued attendance of named children in school and hours will be reviewed in future years, in line with the level of funding received. If the children leave school before the end of the fixed term contract, postholder(s) will be given 28 days’ notice of the early ending of the contract.

This is post is suitable for experienced Teaching Assistants and/or someone with a good level of qualification. The postholder will be expected to be flexible and work additional hours to meet the needs of the school where required.

We are looking for an ambitious and meticulous team member who will go the extra mile for the benefit of the school community. Being a self-starter, able to use own initiative, is an essential part of the role, particularly in terms of getting to know the child the successful candidate will work with and identifying any relevant CPD that the staff member needs.

The successful candidate will set high standards for themselves, the school and our children. S/he will have a positive outlook, be resilient under pressure, and will be excited at the prospect of working as part of a small team where everyone “mucks in”.

The successful candidates will:

* have experience of 1:1 support

* have experience of supporting learning in schools

* have a passion for working with children with additional needs, with good knowledge of best practice

* have a willingness to develop their knowledge of neurodiversity and trauma based practice through training and research

* work positively with parents and families and be willing to participate in all aspects of school life, especially with the families of relevant children

* have high expectations of all children's achievements and behaviour

* be flexible and work collaboratively and successfully as team members

* support the vision and Christian ethos of the school

Application packs can be downloaded from the school website (https://archbishop-runcie.eschools.co.uk/website). Completed applications should be accompanied by a covering letter and sent electronically directly to Mrs Massey, Head Teacher, via email (kate.massey@archbishop.newcastle.sch.uk). CVs will not be accepted.

The deadline for application is Friday 17th June. Longlisted candidates will be asked to submit a short recorded task, week commencing 20th June. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to undertake a range of tasks and a formal interview later that week.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age. We look forward to receiving your applications.
