Newcastle City Council Adult Services Department would like to recruit a Substance Misuse worker to join the Drug and Alcohol Social Work team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to be part of a small, specialist team to provide a social care service for adults who are wanting to access residential rehabilitation services.

The post holder will need to have experience of working in the substance misuse sector, health or social care and have good knowledge of issues relating to alcohol and substance misuse, treatment and recovery. The main function of this post will be to undertake direct work with individuals wanting to access residential rehabilitation services. There will be a particular emphasis on supporting people within the homeless sector and people who have been in contact with, or are at risk of contact within the criminal justice system. You will need to work in partnership and develop good relationships with local treatment services , probation and voluntary sector agencies.

We are strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and a range of other recruitment checks.

This is a fixed term post until 31 March 2023, Please note, all fixed term posts are available for secondment, for a secondment you must gain your managers approval prior to applying.
