An exciting opportunity has arisen within Newcastle City Council to appoint an SEN Specialist teacher for Specific Learning Difficulties within the SEND Outreach Service. This newly created Service brings together the SENTASS and EEAST teams to provide specialist advice and support to mainstream schools and settings for children and young people aged 0 to 25 years.

The role will primarily involve working across the full range of schools across Newcastle City Council to provide assessment, advice and support for children and young people with needs related to Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia).

This role within the SEND Outreach Service offers opportunities to:

• Influence and shape provision within schools for children and young people with Specific Learning Difficulties

• Further develop and enhance the types of assessment, advice and support provided in relation to Specific Learning Difficulties

• Develop SEND training packages for teachers and support staff

• Promote child centred and inclusive approaches, making sure that pupil and parent/carer voice are at the heart of the work that we do

• Work within a supportive environment alongside a highly skilled and expert team of specialist teachers and support staff to share experiences and skills

• Work in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative way with other services within Education, Health and Social Care.

Further information is provided in the attached Recruitment pack. You can also contact Angela Gemmell - Manager of SEND Outreach Service at angela.gemmell@newcastle.gov.uk

Due to Covid restrictions, it is likely that interviews will take place as a TEAMS video call.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.

We are strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and a range of other recruitment checks.
