An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen, for a progressed Children’s Social Worker. You will join an innovative, multi-disciplinary team set up in response to the exploitation of children, young people and adults. This will be co-located with a multidisciplinary team which includes the police, social care, health and third sector colleagues. The post will involve providing support to potential child victims, their families and other agencies. The absolute priority is to protect any victims or potential victims, by working closely with those involved and our partners to ensure they receive the appropriate safeguarding and support.

The team will be co-located within non-police premises to establish a community based ‘hub’ that will take a victim-focused approach building on good practice developed locally.

The information shared by the victims can be harrowing and so it is especially important that the people taking up these posts are able manage emotionally challenging information. An ability to work alone and with a high degree of autonomy is essential whilst seeking advice from their manager as appropriate

The roles will be challenging and varied with the emphasis on working in collaboration with key partners to risk manage and engage with individuals. There will also be an expectation that ongoing support and advice regarding exploitation will be provided to other directorates within the council and to partner and voluntary agencies. This will involve the post holder taking part in awareness raising, training and education.

A commitment to supporting and assisting the development of colleagues is an important part of the role along with a willingness to take on specific lead roles within the service. An ability to work alone and with a high degree of autonomy is essential.

Applicants must have relevant Social Work qualification such as a degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW or CSS or equivalent and be able to evidence post-qualifying awards.

Professional support, supervision and appraisal will be provided.

For an informal discussion please contact Caley Banks on 0191 2115845.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.
