The Adult Community team in Newcastle is looking to appoint a highly motivated Social Worker to provide a service to adults, with social care needs, whose alcohol and substance use increases their vulnerability and risk.

You will need to be a qualified Social Worker, preferably with experience or the passion of working with people who have substance misuse issues. You will complete assessments, case manage, and offer advice/support to adults who use substances including those who are open to formal safeguarding processes where the abuse or neglect is linked to their alcohol and/or substance misuse. This can be linked to Mental health, Homelessness, domestic violence and self-neglect amongst others. You should have a clear understanding of the Care Act and the Local Authorities statutory duties.

You will also need to be a dynamic, innovative and committed person, willing to consider all possible options, working with external stakeholders, people and their families, as well as colleagues within local authority. It is an exciting time to join us as we embark on a new model of social work practice which will be more relationship based and utilise traditional social work skills.

You will work with the Drug and Alcohol treatment services and other relevant services in Newcastle, to ensure the right level of support is provided to enable someone to continue to live in their community and improve health and wellbeing and reduce risk. issues of domestic violence, self-neglect, mental health and homelessness

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful, we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.
