An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a Social Worker within the Older Persons Community Mental Health Team (OPCMHT) in Newcastle.

The position is a two-year fixed term post within a stable, supportive team. It is the perfect time to join us as we embark on a new model of social work practice which will be more relationship based and utilise traditional social work skills.

The successful candidate will have interest, knowledge and understanding of functional and organic mental health in older people and be adept at assimilating and evaluating complex information. They will liaise effectively with other agencies and professionals and have an ability to recognise and support service users, families and carers to achieve positive outcomes whilst handling problems calmly and sensitively. They will have a good understanding of the legislative frameworks of the Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, s42 Safeguarding Enquiries and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. They will also have experience of Court of Protection and Mental Health Tribunal work.

They will be a qualified social worker who is dynamic, passionate and highly motivated to collaboratively support service users and carers to achieve positive outcomes in line with the Care Act 2014 and Local Authority statutory duties. They will be required to work closely with health colleagues across the region to support older adults with various mental health difficulties. They will demonstrate a commitment to collaborative working as they will be required to participate in regular Multi-Disciplinary and external stakeholder meetings.

They will complete assessments, case manage, and offer advice/support to adults and carers alike. They will have experience of safeguarding processes and be able to manage complex risk situations.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful, we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage, even if you indicate otherwise.
