Do you have a passion for social work? Are you an experienced leader? Are you a strategic thinker motivated to provide excellent services to vulnerable children and families?

If this is you - then Newcastle City Council wants you!

We are looking for two experienced and inspiring Children’s Social Care managers to join our team as Service Managers. This is an exciting time to join us. Through our innovative work as part of the DFE’s Strengthening Families Protecting Children programme (read about our work with the DfE and Leeds City Council) we are implementing the Family Valued approach across our service and city to transform how we work with children, families and partners. Family Valued is a relational and restorative approach to services, focussing on strength and values. As part of our Children’s Social Care senior management team you will be instrumental in helping us to continue to shape and deliver our ambitious plans.

With significant experience in front line child protection, you must be confident at cultivating services where excellent practice can thrive and social workers have the confidence and skills to work with families to create lasting change. An effective decision maker you will have a strong focus on performance, quality assurance and continuous improvement to ensure children and young people are receiving the right support at the right time.

Dedicated to the highest practice standards you will also have the vision and experience to deliver social work services that place the needs of children and young people at the heart of everything you do and be committed to working restoratively with families.

There are two Service Manager Posts available - one in our Initial Response Service and one in our Long Term Social Work Service (working alongside two existing Service Managers). Our Initial Response Service provides our first response to safeguarding and child protection concerns, overseeing screening and initial assessments and care planning. Our Long Term Social Work Service provides longer term interventions with families including child in need, child protection, court proceedings, edge of care and specialist services.

Working in Newcastle you will join a supportive and creative service that will support you to succeed. We are committed to our staff receiving the opportunities they need to develop and flourish at all stages of their career. At Newcastle “social workers feel well supported” and practice improvement is delivered “creatively and innovatively” (Ofsted Focus Visit Outcome Letter 2019). We also offer a comprehensive range of training and professional opportunities that evolves and develops to the meet the needs of our workforce. As a senior leader you will be part of our leadership programme.

We will encourage you to be creative and progress your career making social work at Newcastle a profession that is yours to own.

You will also receive:

• A dedicated 5-day induction

• Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually

• A range of flexible working options

• A generous Flexi Scheme

• Access to Mindfulness sessions and other wellbeing initiatives

• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme

• Access to home electronics and car leasing schemes

• Generous relocation package
