Kenton School - all different all equal

Drayton Road

Newcastle upon Tyne

NE3 3RU.

37 hours per week, term time.

Fixed term for 1 year.

The role also involves a working a minimum of 2 weeks during school holiday periods and attendance at weekend camps for which an additional allowance of up to £70 per day can be claimed.

We are extremely excited to be opening a Combined Cadet Force contingent in conjunction with Ministry of Defence at Kenton School from January 2021. As one of the largest schools in the North East with around 1900 students, approximately 50 of whom already participate in some form of service cadets, we believe that the CCF would enrich the lives of many of our young people who are unable to attend traditional cadet detachments.

In addition to leading the CCF at Kenton School which includes running a Tuesday evening session between 3.00 and 5.00 pm every week, we are looking for a highly skilled, capable individual who is able to develop the training, knowledge and skills the programme can offer to deliver and co-ordinate sessions for students disengaged from learning within our wider alternative provision.

The role will involve developing and delivering sessions such as foot drills, navigation, physical activity, first aid, field craft etc, to students while making links to their core curriculum. The role will initially be for one year due to funding, however if successful, we are committed to embedding the CCF and this role as part of our core school provision.

If you are the person we are looking for, you will have a services background combined with excellent interpersonal skills, both in terms of challenging students to ensure their behavior and conduct is of the highest standard both at school and in the community, and to motivate and inspire our young people to achieve the best they can.

You will have excellent organisational skills, to co-ordinate with the MoD to make full use of available resources to benefit students, and ensure that associated administrative duties including risk assessments, health and safety are completed in line with school and MoD requirements. Furthermore, you will be able to commit to a minimum of 10 days during school holiday periods and at least three weekends per year to attend training and run and accompany students on activities and events.

In return we offer fantastic support from both the MoD and in school working alongside one of our senior leaders who is also 2IC and Training Officer for Y Company (Central/West Newcastle and Hexham), the largest Cadet Company in Northumbria.

If you feel you have the experience, skills and attributes to succeed as part of our team, you can visit our website www.kenton.newcastle.sch.uk or email us for an application pack at hr@kenton.newcastle.sch.uk.
