Do you have a passion for working with children and young people? Are you motivated to achieve the best outcomes for children and families? Do you want an employer who will support you to have the career that is right for you?

If this is you - then Newcastle City Council is the place for you!

We are looking for staff to join our residential care team, providing high quality care and support for Newcastle’s children in care, helping them to overcome their earlier life experiences and work towards return home, move to a foster placement or independence.

You will have experience of working with children and young people who have suffered trauma and will be resourceful and resilient and have experience of working in a restorative way. You will be able to establish relationships quickly, and work effectively as part of a team, towards agreed aims and objectives for the home and for individual children and young people.

To succeed as a residential care officer you must be highly motivated, have good communication and IT skills and a clear understanding of needs of children and their families. You must have experience in working with young people, who at times display challenging behaviours, and be able to maintain excellent case records. You will also bring a real commitment to making a difference to the lives of children and young people and their families. Experience of residential care and a recognised social work qualification or NVQ level 3 is desirable and you will have to work shifts as part of a rota, including weekends and sleep ins as required.

We will encourage you to be creative and progress your career and working with us you will receive:

• A dedicated 5-day induction

• Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually

• A range of flexible working options

• Access to Mindfulness sessions and other wellbeing initiatives

• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme

• Access to home electronics and car leasing schemes

If you want to find out more about the role you can speak with Reinder Dam by telephoning 0191 211 5390 or Hayley Carr on 0191 211 5095.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
