Fixed term appointment until 31 March 2024.

This role involves the development and delivery of a programme of free and charged events and activities across four venues in North and South Tyneside (Segedunum Roman Fort, Arbeia Roman Fort, Stephenson Steam Railway and South Shields Museum & Art Gallery) managed by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM).

The post-holder will work closely with the Museum Manager (North & South Tyneside), the venue teams and volunteers, and TWAM Enterprises, as well as liaising with the Communications Officer to ensure planned events achieve their maximum potential in terms of publicity, visitor numbers and income generation. An outline programme of events and activities for 2023 has been drafted for Segedunum and Arbeia that will form the basis for the full event programmes. Proposals for the other two sites are at an earlier stage.

You should have good negotiation skills, experience of event organisation and management, including safety considerations, and operational delivery. You should also have excellent team working skills, be results orientated and motivated to succeed in a target driven environment. You will need to be structured in your approach and attentive to detail, have effective communication and presentation skills, and be flexible in your approach to work. You should be able to work effectively with a wide range of people including management and staff at 4 sites, external suppliers and regional agencies, as well as able to work on your own initiative. An understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice is also essential.

The job role will be based at Segedunum Museum and South Shields Museum & Art Gallery, with an expectation to work at the other two venues, and attend training at other TWAM sites, as required. Some weekend work and early evening work will be expected, as will flexibility to attend some events as required, particularly the Elf Express event at the Stephenson Steam Railway in December.
