Project Co-ordinator: Lindisfarne Gospels Engagement and Community Programme

This is a fixed term post until 1 February 2023

This is an exciting time to join the Art team at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, to work on a high-profile exhibition featuring the Lindisfarne Gospels, which will open at the Laing Art Gallery in September 2022. The exhibition will explore the significance of the Gospels to 21st century society. It will look at ways in which the Gospels can bring people together with a sense of pride in the region and inspire thinking around personal, regional and national identity. Broader themes will examine the spiritual and personal significance of objects and artworks within a historical and contemporary context.

We are currently seeking a dynamic Project Co-ordinator to work with the Lindisfarne Gospels Project Team to grow new audiences, engage with schools & colleges and work with communities in advance of, and whilst the Lindisfarne Gospels are on display. The post holder will support a programme of activity in partnership with regional libraries, volunteers, schools and with our young people’s group L-ink. The post holder will sit within the Laing Art Gallery team and be managed by the Learning Officer, working closely with the wider Arts Team, and with colleagues across Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums.

The responsibilities of the post holder will include, but not be limited to:

• Planning and delivering activities and events (both in person and digital) in close partnership with libraries throughout the region

• Working in partnership with schools to plan and deliver a regional schools programme inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospels (both in person and digital)

• Support our young people’s group L-ink to co-curate an exhibition inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospels

• Supporting high profile artists in a programme of activity.

• Working closely with, and supporting, groups of volunteers delivering activity as part of the Lindisfarne Gospels programme of activity.

• Working in partnership with artists and partners to maximise audience development and engage with communities.

• Collaborating with the Project Team, co-curating collections with community groups and producing community and digital exhibitions

You should have excellent organisational and communication skills, the ability to prioritise a wide range of tasks and work to deadlines. You should have successful experience of project management and working on high profile projects, as well as good ICT and digital skills, including ability to use e-mail, spreadsheets, budget monitoring, internet and word processing. You should also have experience of working with art and/or artists in museum or community setting.
