Newcastle Safeguarding Children Partnership is seeking to appoint an Independent Chairperson, who will take on a key leadership role on behalf of the Newcastle Safeguarding Partners.

This position is for an ‘office holder’ and so will not be an employee. The time worked would be paid following an invoice process.

The wider Newcastle Safeguarding Children Partnership is well established, with good partnership relationships. It has a clear sense of its responsibilities and a determination to focus on improving outcomes for children and young people built on a restorative culture of ‘high support, high challenge’

As the Independent Chairperson you will provide strong strategic leadership to ensure that local multi agency safeguarding arrangements operate effectively and through the use of scrutiny, provide assurance that all relevant agencies co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people in Newcastle. You will support and challenge the partnership to make sure the voice and influence of children and young people are at the heart of its business.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to build on our strong foundations and be part of transforming the Partnership following a recent Peer Review, and a successful Department for Education bid to support strengthening our multi-agency safeguarding arrangements even further.

Applicants will require excellent leadership and decision-making skills and substantial experience within the safeguarding arena. You will have experience and skills in chairing large, complex multi-agency meetings at a senior strategic level, excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to enthuse and challenge partners in Newcastle to ensure effective safeguarding arrangements are in place.

An appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be carried out on preferred candidates.
