Multi Systemic Therapy (MST) is a community-based model directed to older children, teenagers and their families. The approach is targeted at those families where the young person is at risk of coming into care or custody and aims to prevent family breakdown, to reduce offending and to improve educational outcomes.

We are looking to recruit an MST Therapist to join our successful MST team in Newcastle.

MST works intensively with children, young people and their families as well as the other systems around the young person. Caseloads are limited to 4-6 families for each therapist. You must be able to participate as part of a 24-hour per day, 7 days per week on-call rota.

We are looking for a practitioner with significant experience of working effectively with young people and families with multiple problems and challenging behaviours. You will be able to evidence considerable success in having engaged hard to reach families. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to remain calm and have the ability to defuse difficult and sometimes volatile situations.

You will ideally have a post-graduate qualification in psychology, social work, counselling or an equivalent professional qualification from a relevant field of child/adolescent or adult/parenting practice. Experience and knowledge in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Family Therapy and/or pragmatic behavioural interventions would be preferred although full training in the MST model will be provided. Therapists receive weekly group supervision from the manager and consultation from MST Services. Applicants with a related undergraduate degree and significant relevant professional experience will be considered.

For more information about MST go to www.mstuk.org or for an informal discussion call Phil Sammut-Smith, MST Manager 0191 2782788.

Apply online at www.northeastjobs.org.uk.

The successful applicant will be expected to attend and successfully complete the residential MST 5 Day Orientation training starting on Monday 24 February 2020.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
