Foster a Future is Newcastle City Council’s fostering service and we are currently looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who can work constructively with Foster Carers caring for vulnerable children and young people.

You will need to have sound knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and be able to demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills. Experience of working with children, foster carers, parents and other professionals is highly desirable. Knowledge of family finding and matching children with carers would also be an advantage. A good understanding of the Fostering Regulations, Guidance and National Minimum Standards 2011 (England) is expected.

You must have a relevant social work qualification, such as Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent, and current Social Work England registration.

We will consider applications for progressed (N8) and unprogressed (N7) workers with relevant experience but to apply for the progressed social worker role, you should have at least 2 years post qualifying experience and have achieved a Post Qualifying Award.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

If you are interested in this post and would like some further information before applying, please email deborah.anderson@newcastle.gov.uk with your preferred contact number and someone from the management team will get back to you.

Apply online at www.northeastjobs.org.uk, select 'Apply Now' and complete our online application form.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
