Newcastle City Council is going through an exciting period of change. To support our strong political leadership we have just appointed our new Chief Executive, who will be helping to set the pace and deliver the vision for the future for the benefit of all who live, work, learn and visit the city. For our Children, Young People and Education Services, this will mean a journey to be outstanding.

This is both a key strategic role for the Council and reports to the Chief Executive as the Council’s statutory DCS. As a highly credible and skilled leader, you will have considerable experience of working in a senior Children’s social care role and preferably have worked at the level of a DCES. It would also be highly advantageous if you have knowledge or experience of the Education sector and Adult Learning and Skills, but you will manage senior colleagues with expertise in these areas.

You will be a highly visible leader who values staff and can work effectively with stakeholders and partners to assist the Council in achieving its’ ambitious agenda to improve the lives of children and families in Newcastle.

You will use your substantial leadership experience, alongside your technical, professional, and legislative knowledge to drive forward change and deliver improved outcomes for children and families in Newcastle.

Your skills in partnership working and collaborative approach to work will be crucial to influence and challenge stakeholders and partners to improve delivery models and deliver value for money services.

You will be attuned to the political environment in which you work, demonstrating empathy and sensitivity in a changing and challenging context. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate appropriate financial awareness and experience of budgetary control.

Join us at this exciting time where Newcastle has recently achieved a Good Ofsted rating for Newcastle City Learning, very strong Youth Justice Pilot inspection and was recognised for making significant progress within our SEND service.
