Second World War and Holocaust Partnership Programme, Digital Intern

12-month Internship due to commence in April 2021

This 12 month internship will be part of the Second World War and Holocaust Partnership Programme. SWWHPP is an ambitious programme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and led by the Imperial War Museums (IWM) which supports eight cultural heritage partners across the UK, including Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM), to engage with new audiences and share hidden or lesser known, local stories related to those histories. As intern you will take part in the vital work that the project will do to support the development of digital content within the Partnership to bring SWWHPP stories to life for existing and new audiences.

The internship will allow you to gain professional experience working on a UK-wide heritage project. You will work closely with Discovery Museum’s curatorial team and Tyne & Wear Archives team to gain insight into the work they do, assisting, for example, with preparing, describing and digitally preserving collections. You will also spend time with colleagues reaching out to new audiences and individuals to capture hidden or lesser knowns stories which can be added to the collection. You will develop your knowledge of how to use stories from the collection to create digital content in order to engage new audiences.

The job holder will be based predominantly on site at the Discovery Museum due to the requirement to review and digitise materials and meet with community groups. The Museum, Archives and all office areas are Covid secure. The job holder may also need to travel to other TWAM venues on Tyneside and other partner organisations in the UK.

The project team will be hosting a virtual session on 9 February 2021 from 10am to 12.30pm where you can learn more about the work they do and what the internship will involve. It is recommended that you attend the session if you wish to apply but it is not a requirement for applying for this role.
