Educational Psychology Service

Start date: 1 September 2023

Newcastle Educational Psychology Service is seeking to appoint a Deputy Manager for the Educational Psychology Service. The successful candidate will join a large and growing team, currently consisting of 16.6 FTE EPs (including three Specialist Senior EPs), two doctoral trainee EPs and four Assistant EPs. The service is highly regarded by schools and settings and Educational Psychologists are involved in a range of preventative and early intervention work as well as undertaking statutory duties.

The Local Authority is committed to the delivery of core (non - statutory / non - traded) work focusing on a range of cross LA and school priorities, which has led to the development of new and innovative ways of working. The EPS is well positioned within the Local Authority, with the Manager and Deputy Manager both actively engaged in strategic level work across the Education and Skills division. There are very close working relationships with other SEN services and excellent links with Newcastle University.

The Manager and the Deputy Manager of the EPS work closely together to plan the strategic direction of the Service, with the Deputy Manager expected to provide advice, support and challenge. There is shared responsibility for the line management and development of the team, and the Deputy Manager takes the lead in several key areas of service performance and planning. The successful applicant will also be expected to undertake Educational Psychology activities within schools and settings.

Two of our most recently appointed Educational Psychologists have said:

• I really love the great team spirit and how welcoming everyone has been. It really feels like a strong team who can pull together.

• There are plenty of opportunities to engage in a wide range of meaningful project work.

• I feel that the combination of opportunities and support has enabled me to produce what I consider to be some of my best work as a psychologist.

• It feels as though you have the freedom to work the way you want to work.

If that sounds like a service you would like to join, please feel free to contact Lara Lillico. Educational Psychology Service Manager on 0191 2774577 or at lara.lillico@newcastle.gov.uk, for an informal discussion.

Applicants will need to be fully qualified and experienced Educational Psychologists. Applicants interested in either a full time post or a proportion of this time will be considered (minimum 0.8 FTE) as will applicants interested in job share.
