Business Management Officer

Ref:

OPS843

Full time

£39,571 - £42,614 per annum

Fixed Term up until end of July 2023.

Newcastle is a great City, one that never stands still, that faces forward and embraces change. A City that makes history and shapes the future with a bold vision to achieve its ambitions supporting a post-pandemic vibrant City for both its residents and visitors.

Working for the City Council in Newcastle isn’t like any other job. Everything we do has an impact on the people that live in our City so our commitment, diligence and energy have to be second to none.

The council is responsible for collection, treatment and disposal of all the household waste in the city, collecting from over 137,000 properties. Waste management at this scale is complex and relies on a mixture of in-house services and external multi-million pound contracts. The council is committed to following the waste hierarchy, reducing the volume of waste produced in the city as a whole and increasing recycling.

We are looking for a Business Management Officer to join a small Waste Strategy Team, who are responsible along with colleagues in Local Services and Waste Management, for contributing to the delivery of Council priorities including the Newcastle Waste Strategy, Net Zero Newcastle and for implementing the government’s Resources and Waste Strategy (RWS). The RWS is described as a ‘once in a generation’ change to the waste industry.

There are two key elements to the position, which means we are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate experience in both project management and data interpretation.

Implementation of the RWS will require changes to collection methods and infrastructure. The successful candidate will manage elements of this programme. We rely on data to monitor our performance and inform future changes. The post holder will also be expected to manage, analyse and interpret data from multiple sources.

The successful candidate will be able to work both on their own and as part of a small dedicated team.
