Surface water drainage pre-planning application advice
Newcastle City Council as the designated Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) are a statutory consultee in relation to surface water management on all major planning applications and any development that may affect flooding, a watercourse or water body.
All developments which have the potential to impact upon surface water runoff, groundwater and watercourses are encouraged to seek pre-application advice.
Developers should be aware of the technical standards provided nationally by LASOO - 'Non-Statutory Technical Standards for Sustainable Drainage' (pdf, 20.09mb) and regional standards (to be published) along with the processes and services they can expect from the LLFA in dealing with their application.
The benefits of undertaking this service are explained in our guidance document on Surface Water Drainage Advice for Developers (pdf 762kb).
Pre-Application forms are available from Planning and Development Planning Pre-application page.
Please note, the LLFA have limited scope to review amendments to applications once it is officially registered with the Local Planning Authority. The formal response of the LLFA regarding planning applications will be purely based on the information supplied on the application.
