Adaptations

Equipment and aids can help you with daily activities at home. Adaptations can be made to your home to make it easier and safer to get around.

If you are finding daily tasks difficult you can request a care and support assessment  online or contact Community Health and Social Care Direct to assess your needs. The assessment asks questions to:

  • find out what support you need to help you live independently at home
  • offer information on grants and loans available through the Council
  • offer information and advice on what support might be available locally

You don't have to have an assessment but it is a great way to find out what might help make life easier for you.

If you prefer, you can buy your own equipment.

Equipment and aids

Equipment and aids can help to make your life easier if you're having problems with getting:

  • in and out of the bath
  • around indoors or outdoors
  • dressed
  • on and off chairs
  • in and out of bed
  • a hot drink or a meal
  • up and down the stairs
  • using a telephone
  • watching television or listening

Where to buy equipment

Your Equipment Newcastle is a website where you can find and buy a range of equipment and aids. It asks you questions about what you are finding difficult and suggests equipment that can help.

Your care and support assessment will find out if you're eligible for a disabled facilities grant or equipment loan to help pay for equipment.
