What do we do?Model of the Heart of the City

Development Management within Newcastle City Council is responsible for a wide range of multi disciplinary services. These include:

  • Providing planning advice on all development proposals and determining planning applications. This includes proposals for new buildings and extensions, changes of use, telecommunications and advertisements.
  • Providing advice on works to trees and landscape schemes.
  • Providing advice on ecological issues such as protected species and habitat creation.
  • Producing development briefs and giving urban design advice for key sites in the City.
  • Dealing with unauthorised developments and monitoring compliance with approved details on development.
  • Promoting and protecting the City's heritage through providing advice on works to listed buildings and within conservation areas, running heritage open days, providing archaeological advice and providing a specialist heritage advice service across Tyne and Wear.
