Information about the Blue Badge scheme and disabled parking spaces in NewcastleThe Blue Badge Scheme - Parking concessions for disabled and blind people

The Blue Badge Scheme is a European wide scheme which provides a range of parking benefits for disabled people who travel either as drivers or as passengers. The badge can be used in any country in the European Union and in some other European countries as well. You can find more information on which countries you can use the badge in on the Direct.gov website.

Local councils are responsible for dealing with applications for the badge on behalf of the Government. If you want to apply for a badge you need to apply to your local council, which is usually the one that you pay your Council Tax to. If you do not live in Newcastle you can find contact details for your local council on the Direct.gov website.

From 01 January 2012 the Department for Transport are bringing in a number of changes to Blue Badge administration.  This follows consultation as part of the Blue Badge Reform Programme.
