City Centre Transformation: Progress to Date

City Centre Transformation: Progress to Date

Our current thinking

We have been working closely with our partners and stakeholders throughout the city on our proposals and would like to thank all of those who have engaged with us so far.

The city centre should be a place for everyone - young and old, families, and those passing through. It should continue to be a place for businesses to thrive and for new businesses to invest in. This programme will enhance the attractiveness of the city centre for private sector investment, ensuring it continues to grow.

Many businesses have taken part in engagement to date and by working with them, we have revised our proposals to make sure plans work for them. We will continue to engage with businesses and those who use and enjoy the city to make sure that opinions are shared, and queries answered.

Designs are most advanced for four streets within the city: Northumberland Street (South), Ridley Place, Saville Row and Grey Street. Engagement with the businesses on these streets has been ongoing since the end of 2020, so that we can fully understand what businesses are looking for, and how we can support them whilst delivering on our long-term vision.
