City Centre Transformation: Phasing
City Centre Transformation: Phasing
Our programme is being carried out in phases to minimise disruption to those who are using the space, but to ensure our vision is still achieved.
Newcastle City Council has been sourcing grant funding from national Government to deliver our vision, with funding to date secured from:
- The Getting Building Fund. This funding is allowing us to make improvements and changes to Northumberland Street, Ridley Place, Saville Row and Grey Street.
- Transforming Cities Fund. This fund aims to drive productivity through connections between urban centres and suburbs. Investment in infrastructure is a key part of increasing journeys made by sustainable modes of transport – such as walking and cycling.
- Active Travel Fund. This funding will support changes to be made to Grey Street by prioritising space away from vehicles to encourage active travel.
- Levelling Up Fund. This funding will help to improve and secure the future of both the Grainger Market and key areas of the city centre, improving the environment and making it easier to get around.
