Your Home, Your Choice
Newcastle City Council are pleased to be working with The Elders Council of Newcastle, Your Homes Newcastle and various partners to host the Your Home, Your Choice event on the 26 April.
The event, which will take place in the Banqueting Hall of Newcastle Civic Centre, is aimed at providing housing information and advice to older people from across the City.
There will be a combination of stall holders and guest speakers all of which will explore what can make older people feel safe, secure and healthy in their homes. There will also be the opportunity to discuss specific home adaptations and alterations that can support you or your family with their housing needs.
There will be over 40 stall holders at the event including the British Red Cross, Healthwatch Newcastle, Meals at Home, Newcastle Carers, Northumbria Police, various care home providers and moving and handy man services.
There will also be guest presentations and talks throughout the day, aimed at providing a detailed look at specific areas of housing. Talks include Creating Independence through Technology, Future Homes for All Generations and a session to launch the improved InformationNOW website.
The event will be opened by Councillor Karen Kilgour, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Health –
“Making sure all our residents feel safe, secure and comfortable in their homes is important. This event is a fantastic opportunity for older residents to explore the services that are available across the city to help them achieve this.
Our work with the Elders Council, Your Homes Newcastle and other partners helps us to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to make informed choices about their future home, whether they want to stay put or find something new.
Even if you can’t make it to the event the relaunched InformationNOW website is the perfect place to find information and advice about housing and to help support residents to find the best solution for their housing”
The event which has been organised by The Elders Council of Newcastle has been supported by Newcastle City Council and Your Home’s Newcastle.
Matthew Foreman, Director of Customer Service at Your Homes Newcastle said:
“Our customers often tell us how much they value feeling safe and comfortable in their own homes which is why we offer a range of services designed specifically for older people.
This includes a range of homes exclusively for people over 55 and some fantastic services that support people to live independently including gardening services and Ostara’s 24 hour alarm and response service.
The Elders Council does a great job of helping people and their families to understand the options out there and the Your Home Your Choice event will be a fantastic opportunity to find out more in a friendly and relaxed setting.”
The event will run from 10.30am – 4pm with information on the specific timings for the talks available at the Elders Council Website – www.elderscouncil.org.uk
